Outdoorsy is undoubtedly our top pick when it comes to Houston RV rentals! It’s one of the best peer-to-peer rental marketplaces in the world. That term essentially means you’ll be hiring a private vehicle directly from its owner, rather than a specific rental company.

We love Outdoorsy for so many reasons, but one of the highlights has to be the fact that you get 24/7 roadside assistance and insurance (up to $1 million) included with every rental.

You’ll also find a wealth of RVs to choose from and many of them include unlimited mileage and generator use, so you’ll save on fees later down the line. Not to mention, some of the vehicle listings have a very flexible cancellation policy.

Houston RV Rentals FAQ

How much does it cost to hire an RV in Houston?

The cost of rental RVs in Texas will depend on several factors; namely the class of RV, the duration of your trip, and the company you choose. The time of year can also have an effect.

Typically, expect to pay between $70-$140 per night for a small campervan, and $150-$250+ for a large motorhome or travel trailer.

How old do you need to be to hire an RV in Houston?

Generally, you need to be at least 25 to hire a camper or motorhome in Houston. Some rental companies will hire a vehicle to you if you’re over 21, but this is at their discretion. Unfortunately, if you’re under 25 then you’ll likely have to pay a young driver's surcharge fee.

Before you book, make sure you check the terms and conditions of the company or marketplace that you go for.

What’s included in an RV rental in Houston?

This will depend on the company you choose and the vehicle you decide upon. Many rental companies in Houston offer free roadside assistance and insurance with their rentals, which is what you’ll want to go for.

In terms of amenities, this will be different for every vehicle. Usually, the larger vehicles will include more facilities as they offer more space.

Do you need a special license to drive an RV in Texas?

Generally speaking, you won’t need a special license to hire and drive a motorhome in Texas. You’ll only need one if the vehicle you’re hiring is over 26,000 pounds.

This certainly isn’t likely, as most rentals fall way under this weight category.

Which RV rental will you go for?

As you can see, there are plenty of awesome RVs for rent in Houston, Texas. Now that you’re aware of the options available to you, it’s time to start planning your awesome road trip!

First of all, Texas is home to two of the most beautiful national parks in the United States; Big Bend and the Guadalupe Mountains. You’ll also find 14 protected areas within the state, with some of these being historic sites.

Some other popular locations to visit in Texas include Brazos Bend State Park, Padre Island National Seashore, Natural Bridge Caverns, and Caddo Lake.

Don’t miss out on the state’s bustling cities either (of which there are plenty). This includes your starting point of Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, and Fort Worth.

All in all, there’s no shortage of places to visit so try to allow at least 2-3 weeks for exploring Texas if you can. Trust us, this isn’t a destination that you want to rush!
