Here's my in-depth review of the BLUETTI AC240 power stations. Much larger than some of it's counterparts, discover how well it stands up to the test.
BLUETTI AC240 Review

When you’ve lived on the road as much as we have (as well as now living on an off-grid dutch barge), having constant access to a power supply is vital.

This is why we love BLUETTI’s products so much! In fact, I’ve already reviewed some of their range here (EB3A Review, AC60 & B80 Combo Review, and AC200L Review).

In this guide, I’m going to be personally reviewing the BLUETTI AC240. This portable power station has a lot going for it, namely its outdoor-friendly build and expansion capabilities; but how good is it really?

As well as outlining the BLUETTI AC240’s main features, I’ll cover what makes this product stand out against other models, as well as other top competitors.

Of course, I’ll offer my honest opinions too (as always).

Want to know what makes the BLUETTI AC240 so special?

Let’s dive straight in!

P.S. The BLUETTI Summer Sale is now on! You can get big discounts on all of their ranges, including on the AC240+PV200 solar generator kit. You can check the offer out here.

TAP TO INTERACT

Who is BLUETTI?

BLUETTI is one of the leading brands when it comes to portable power stations. For those who have done some research, you’ll likely already have heard of them!

This company has been around since 2019 (so has a fantastic reputation considering they’re relatively new). They also have a solid brand presence in over a dozen countries!

One of the ideals that sets BLUETTI apart from other companies is that they focus on energy independence, and they’re committed to providing safe and clean energy. Unlike other companies that offer traditional gas generators, BLUETTI mainly focuses on portable power solutions. These can be used on the go which is a huge bonus!

BLUETTI offers a range of products, which are usable in both indoor and outdoor environments. This makes them incredibly versatile. Not only that but these products are known for their excellent performance and unique design.

As well as portable power stations, there are various other products available, including battery expansion packs, solar panels, and solar generator kits. As such, this company has something for everyone!

BLUETTI Product Range: a Quick Overview

BLUETTI offers a fantastic range of products, more of which are released every year, so there are always new models and accessories to try out.

Trying to get a grasp on all of the company's products can be overwhelming, especially when checking out BLUETTI’s website.

For those who aren’t sure where to start, I’ll give a quick overview below of the different products this company offers…

Portable Power Stations

BLUETTI is a fantastic company and a leading brand in portable power stations. They offer two main ranges; the AC range and the EB range.

In the AC range, there’s the:

  • AC2A - 300W / 204Wh
  • AC60 - 600W / 403Wh
  • AC70 - 1,000W / 768Wh
  • AC180 - 1,800W / 1,152Wh
  • AC200P - 2,000W / 2,000Wh
  • AC200MAX - 2,200W / 2,048Wh
  • AC240 - 2,400 W / 1,536Wh
  • AC200L -  2,400W / 2,048Wh
The smaller AC60, which we've also tested

In the EB range, there’s the:

  • EB3A - 600W / 268Wh
  • EB55 - 700W / 537Wh
  • EB70 - 1,000W / 716Wh

NOTE: Keep in mind that the exact range may differ depending on your country of origin. At the time of writing, this list is accurate for the UK market.

Expansion Batteries

If you’re unsure of what an expansion battery is, we’ve got you! These batteries aren’t designed to be used on their own, instead, they are designed to attach to a portable power station.

When used on their own, expansion batteries have limited output capabilities. However, when used with another station, they provide greater power capacity.

This company has one range of expansion batteries. This is the B range and current models include the:

  • B80 - 806Wh
  • B230 - 2,048Wh
  • B210 - 2,150Wh
  • B300 - 3,072Wh
  • B300S - 3,072Wh

NOTE: Just to clarify, these expansion batteries don’t increase your power output ability (W). They only increase the overall usable power supply (Wh).

Home Backup Systems

As well as portable power stations (+ expansion batteries), this company also offers home battery backup systems, in the form of solar-powered generators.

These generators can be used at home so you’ll have a backup in the case of any power outages. Not only that, but you won’t be as dependent on the electricity grid.

A great example of BLUETTI’s home backup systems is the EP500Pro Power Station. With a capacity of 5,100Wh and a power output of 2,000W, this power station could power your home for a full day or two.

The EP500Pro also has 14 outlet sources so you can charge various devices.

Solar Panels

Testing the PV200 along with the EB3A

Another highlight of BLUETTI is that they offer portable solar panels - perfect for those who are always on the go!

These solar panels fold down easily offering van lifers/campers plenty of space, and you’ll have all the power you could need to charge your devices.

What is the purpose of a solar panel you ask?

Well, your power station and any solar panels you purchase will work together. Essentially, the power station is a base unit, which features outputs and gives you power. Those who purchase a solar panel will then have a solar generator. That’s pretty much all there is to it!

Current solar panel models include:

  • PV120 Solar Panel - 120W
  • PV120S Solar Panel - 120W
  • SP120 Solar Panel - 120W
  • SP200 Solar Panel - 200W
  • PV200 Solar Panel - 200W
  • PV350 Solar Panel - 350W

To make things easier, the difference between each solar panel is the amount of watts. For example, the PV120 can pump out 120W of solar power into your power station, if it’s in direct sunlight.

Just be aware that the number of solar panels you can attach to a power station depends on the model. Also, larger solar panels will naturally take longer to recharge.

NOTE: Solar panels may vary depending on your country of origin.

Solar Generator Kits

To make things even easier for consumers, BLUETTI also offers solar generator kits. These environmentally friendly kits are suitable for both home use and life on the road.

With a solar generator kit, you’ll have a portable power station and solar panel included.

For example, let’s take a look at the BLUETTI AC200MAX + PV350 Solar Generator Kit. The BLUETTI AC200MAX offers 2,200W of power on its own, but once coupled with a solar panel, you’ll have additional power.

In the case of this solar generator kit, you can choose from three different PV350 Solar Panels; 350W, 700W, or 1050W. Of course, the 1050W panel will offer more capacity!

BLUETTI AC240 Key Features

Now it’s time to look at the BLUETTI AC240 in a bit more depth by detailing some of its key features…

Power Capacity

When talking about power capacity, it’s important that you first know the difference between Watts (W) and Watt Hours (Wh). Here’s a quick definition:

  • Watts - The amount of power a device requires to be charged or used.
  • Watt Hours - The power station's overall battery capacity.

Now, the BLUETTI AC240 has 2,400W of power and 1,536Wh of capacity. This is superior to some of the company’s other products, such as the AC70, which offers 1,000W of power and 768Wh of capacity.

Not only that but the BLUETTI AC240 has a fantastic powerlifting mode (up to 3,600W), which you can activate.

When buying a power station, this is the first and most crucial step before diving deep into additional features. Think about how much power you realistically need and for what you will actually be using it.

For frame of reference in terms of power consumption, one test I did on the AC240 was to power our washing machine. For a 54 minute, 40 degree wash it used 28%.

Expansion Capabilities

The bonus of using BLUETTI’s power stations is their expansion capabilities and the BLUETTI AC240 is no different.

On its own, the BLUETTI AC240 has a capacity of 1,536Wh. However, by adding an expansion battery (or several), such as the B210 or B210P, this power can be increased. In fact, the BLUETTI AC240 has an expandable capacity of up to 20,886Wh which is crazy!

Just be aware that this doesn’t increase the overall wattage. Therefore, you won’t be able to charge/use more powerful devices. However, you can use the usual devices for a lot longer, which is super convenient.

I’d suggest doing some research before buying an expansion battery to go with your unit. Those who want it for a small campervan conversion will require far less power than a huge motorhome, so you can then decide what kind of capacity you’ll need.

IP65 All-Round Protection

One of the BLUETTI AC240’s best features is its IP65 All-Round Protection. This rating means the model is designed to withstand dust as well as low powered water jets from all directions.

That is insane!

Making it a truly incredible piece of kit and suitable for damp environments.

I would probably aim to keep this dry and dust free at all times. But for when the unexpected happens and it’s caught out in the elements, it’s great to know it can withstand it.

Bear in mind it also boasts  independent ventilation, a dual protective interface, airtight components, and a superior cooling fan. Meaning, this portable power station is MADE for life in the outdoors!

The much more affordable BLUETTI AC60 (read my review here) also has this IP65 waterproof rating, although it’s less powerful with 600W of power and 403Wh of capacity. This will be suitable for those only charging small devices but not for those who require a lot of power.

However, it does offer very fast solar and turbocharging.

Charging System

The BLUETTI AC240 has a very flexible charging system. There are several ways in which you can charge this portable power station; car charger, lead-acid battery, solar panels, and AC outlet.

Regarding charging times, the BLUETTI AC240 takes 1 hour to charge by AC and 1.5 hours by PV (solar panels). The model offers one of the fastest charging times on the market.

You’ll typically need to recharge the AC240 up to 80% every 3-6 months if you leave it unused, just to preserve the battery life.

Just be aware that you’ll need extra cables for turbo and shore power charging (for those in a boat). These can be purchased online as well.

Smart App Control

Another huge bonus of choosing this company for your power station is its handy app. With the BLUETTI app, you can smart control and monitor the AC240 (using WiFi and Bluetooth).

Whether you’re at home or on the go, as long as you have connectivity, you can access real-time information. Not only can you monitor the unit’s power status this way, but you can access advanced features such as ECO and UPS, all from the palm of your hand.

I really like this app, as on other brands where the stations have less features, the apps always feel a little too gimmicky. Perhaps letting you turn the light on or off.

The BLUETTI app, coupled with the AC240 goes much further beyond this and makes the user interface much easier to use as compared to trying to adjust settings directly on the small screen of the AC240 itself.

Other Key Information

Here are some other handy things to know:

  • The BLUETTI AC240 typically has a 10-year lifespan which accounts for approximately 3,500+ charge cycles.
  • The model comes with lifetime customer support and a 6-year warranty.
  • The BLUETTI AC240 has been designed to be quiet, clean, and renewable.
  • You can purchase the AC240 as a solar generator kit. You can choose from two different solar panels; the PV200 (200W) and PV350 (350W).
  • This portable power station has a built-in handle so offers a compact design.

AC240 vs AC200L: Which Is Better?

Now you’ve got a good idea of the AC240’s features, it's time to compare it with another of BLUETTI’s models - the AC200L (which I’ve recently reviewed).

What are the differences between the AC240 and the AC200L you ask? Well, let’s dive right in and discuss what each one has to offer.

First of all, let’s talk about power capacity. Both models offer 2,400W of power, but the AC200L features 2,048Wh of capacity, while the AC240 only offers 1,536Wh. However, the AC240 has a 3,600W Power Lifting Mode too!

Not only that, but the BLUETTI AC240 offers fantastic expansion capabilities, with an expandable capacity of up to 20,886Wh, compared to the AC200L (which only has an expandable capability of 8,192Wh).

Another huge bonus of choosing the AC240 is its IP65 rating, which makes it perfect for outdoor use. This portable power station is designed to withstand the elements (including dust, moisture, and mud), which means it’s suitable for damp environments.

The AC240 model also has an extra year’s warranty and is considered the brand’s best RV companion (as well as a fantastic yacht companion) thanks to its NEMA TT-30A and RV ports.

Although the BLUETTI AC240 has so many amazing features which make it stand out against the AC200L, there are a few things to consider.

First of all, the AC200L has the fastest AC/PV input in its capacity range and multiple outputs support. The AC200L is also over 8 kg lighter, which is an important factor for those who are permanently on the go (due to vehicle weight restrictions).

In my opinion, the BLUETTI AC240 is perfect for outdoor use (van lifers in particular) whereas the AC200L is beneficial for those who need to charge larger appliances (such as a portable fridge or toasters).

AC240 vs Competitors

Running our air fryer no problem!

After comparing the BLUETTI AC240 with the AC200L, it’s time to look at how it weighs up against some of the other best power stations out there.

First of all, it’s important to take in the BLUETTI AC240’s capacity. At just 1,536Wh, it has a lower capacity than many other models on the market, especially the EcoFlow Delta 2 Max and the Anker 767 Power House (both of which have 2,048Wh).

However, the AC240’s expandable capacity certainly makes up for this. By adding an expansion battery (or multiple batteries), this portable power station has an expandable capacity of up to 20,886Wh.

When you take into consideration that the EcoFlow Delta 2 Max has no expandable capacity and the Anker 767 Power House has limited capacity, this certainly makes the BLUETTI AC240 stand out.

Not only that, but the AC240 has support for parallel connection, which can double its power up to 4,800W. This is a huge win as many models (including the EcoFlow Delta 2 Max) don’t offer a parallel connection.

Another huge advantage of the AC240 over its competitors is its durability as it’s designed for outdoor use. With its IP65 waterproof rating, this model is designed to withstand moisture and dust, making it suitable for a variety of environments.

Other portable power stations (including the Jackery Explorer 2000 Plus and Anker 767 Power House) offer a low protection level from the elements, meaning they’re unsuitable for many environments and climates (especially damp environments).

Another factor that weighs in favour of the BLUETTI AC240 is its compact size. Compared to other models from EcoFlow and Jackery, the AC240 is much smaller, meaning it's much easier to store - a huge bonus for van lifers!

As you can see, this portable power station has a lot to offer. There will always be other models on the market that offer similar features, but the AC240 is a real gem, especially as it offers a 6-year warranty.

The big thing that springs to mind that disadvantages the AC240 relative to, say the Anker equivalent, is that the 767 can be wheeled about, whereas the AC240 cannot.

BLUETTI AC240 Overall Review: Is it worth buying?

After reviewing the different features of this portable power station, it’s time to talk about what the BLUETTI AC240 has to offer in the market as a whole (and my opinion of it).

Short answer …

This thing is a beast and one of the best high-end power stations you’ll find anywhere online. Simply in terms of capacity and straightforward usable features, combined with price, it’s spot on. Couple that with the reliable and trustworthy BLUETTI name, you have a no brainer purchase.

Slightly longer answer …

If you want an all-in-one solution designed to cope well with much more rugged environments, then the IP65 rating on this unit is a serious perk.

Not many power stations boast such hardcore durability. Meaning that, if you’re comparing like-for-like models and don’t know what to go for, then for the sake of a few dollars more, this is a huge standout feature.

When camping, van living, boating (we regularly do all 3), there will always be unexpected leaks, flash storms, sudden downpours, as well as drops and drinks. So I love the fact that you know the AC240 can sustain this much better than many of its closest rivals.

In my opinion, the really crucial thing you want to consider here is what you will be using this unit for today, and whether those capacity needs will change over time. If you are worried the AC240 is not quite enough for certain trips, then no problem, you can simply buy an add-on battery. Then say you need less power next time you go away, then just leave the expansion unit behind and take the AC240 on its own.

Need more capacity? Great, buy ANOTHER expansion battery. I think that is such a powerful perk that BLUETTI offers.

But at the same time you pay a slight premium to have those bonuses; and if you’re certain you will never need an expansion or a waterproof rating, then this may well not be the unit for you.

It’s like paying for an off-road 4x4 vehicle and just using it to drive around a city. What’s the point?

Who is the BLUETTI AC240 most suitable for?

The BLUETTI AC240 is suitable for so many uses. But, I’d say that it’s more suited to those who aren’t looking to power large electronic appliances, such as a huge fridge or freezer. This is due to the model’s capacity (1,536Wh).

In my opinion, the BLUETTI AC240 is perfect for those living on the road, but don’t need to lug it around too often. This makes it ideal for things like van life thanks to its specific RV output, compact size, and durability. As it’s designed for outdoor use, the AC240 is incredibly versatile (especially as it’s resistant to moisture and dust).

This portable power station is also perfect for those living the boat life, as it can be connected with shore power. This means it can be used to power yachts. Just be aware that an extra cable is required for this and you’ll need to purchase it separately.

However, the BLUETTI AC240 can also be used as a UPS (uninterrupted power supply) at home, so it really does have something to offer everyone.

For shorter, smaller camping trips, especially where space and weight is at a premium, this probably isn't the unit for you. Instead, weigh up your exact power needs, and you’ll probably find something a fraction of the capacity and much more portable is the way to go.

And remember, the BLUETTI Summer Sale is now on! You can get big discounts on all of their ranges, including on the AC240+PV200 solar generator kit. You can check the offer out here.

Final thoughts

BLUETTI is a fantastic brand and is always at the forefront of emerging technology. They release new ranges every year so there’s always a new product to check out, but the AC240 is certainly one of the company’s more game-changing products.

With its fantastic expansion capabilities, flexible charging system, and IP65 all-round protection, this portable power station has so much to offer. Better yet, parallel connection is supported and it has powerlifting mode.

The BLUETTI AC240 has also been designed to have lower noise levels and it can be monitored by using the company’s smart app, so you can access real-life information anywhere (as long as you have an internet connection).

For those who are still unsure, the AC240 has an extended lifespan (approximately 3,500+ cycles) and comes with a 6-year warranty. Not to mention, this model is a fantastic option for those living on a boat or embracing van life.

Just be aware that the BLUETTI AC240 isn’t cheap. It’s the same price as the AC200L (when there’s no sale or discounts) so will set you back quite a bit of cash.

Some individuals may not be in a position to spend this money, and you may not need to! The BLUETTI AC240 is most suitable for outdoor lovers (and individuals who are constantly on the road) rather than those just looking for an additional power source.

If you don’t need to charge large electronic appliances, then a smaller power system may be more suitable anyway!

Where to Buy BLUETTI Products
