If you’ve been dreaming of soaking in a steamy hot pool with epic ocean views, GeoSea in Húsavík might just be calling your name.
Tucked away in North Iceland, this geothermal sea bath offers something totally unique—a soak in naturally heated seawater, instead of the typical freshwater hot springs Iceland is famous for.
We visited over 20 different hot springs/hot baths throughout Iceland during our 5 week visit, and GeoSea is top of our list!
But is it worth the detour? Should you swap out the Blue Lagoon or Myvatn Nature Baths for a dip in GeoSea?
Let’s dive into everything you need to know about this stunning infinity-pool-style hot spring and whether it deserves a spot on your Iceland itinerary.
Imagine sinking into a warm, mineral-rich pool while gazing at an endless ocean horizon, with the occasional whale tail breaking the surface in the distance. Sounds dreamy, right?
That’s exactly what GeoSea offers.
Located in Húsavík, Iceland’s whale-watching capital, GeoSea is a geothermal sea bath that uses naturally heated seawater instead of freshwater.
This means you get all the skin-nourishing minerals without the strong sulfuric smell that some Icelandic hot springs are known for (looking at you, Myvatn 👀).
The water is constantly replenished from deep underground, maintaining a perfect soaking temperature of 38-39°C (100-102°F).
And unlike the Blue Lagoon, you won’t find silica mud masks here—just pure relaxation and unmatched views over Skjálfandi Bay.
Some people have seen whales directly from the hot springs!
Unfortunately we didn’t, but how awesome would that have been!!
If you’re visiting during the winter months (i,e when it’s dark all the time), you’ll have a good chance of seeing the Northern Lights as you’re relaxing in the pools.
GeoSea sits on a clifftop overlooking the ocean in Húsavík, making it an easy stop if you’re exploring North Iceland or doing the Diamond Circle Roadtrip!
It’s a great final stop after a whale-watching tour in Húsavík—because what’s better than soaking in a hot pool while still keeping an eye out for whales?
GeoSea features multiple infinity-edge pools, all interconnected, creating a relaxing, spa-like atmosphere.
The water is clean, mineral-rich, and saltier than typical geothermal pools—so floating effortlessly while staring at the horizon is part of the magic.
The water is clean, the general area is super clean (like most hot springs in Iceland), and you’ll be happy to know there isn’t a long walk from the exit of the shower rooms to the entrance of the first pool- this is particularly important in winter when it’s freezing outside ;)
The view is the main event here. With an unobstructed panorama over Skjálfandi Bay, you might spot whales, seabirds, and maybe even the Northern Lights if you visit in winter. The best time to go? Sunset—when the sky turns pink and gold, and the whole place feels otherworldly.
We absolutely adored the atmosphere here. Granted, when we visited, it wasn’t overly busy, but the whole place was just super relaxing.
There are super ,modern changing rooms with lockers, showers, and hairdryers, and you’ve even got access to private showers, which is a plus in the world of Icelandic hot springs!
You’ve got an in water bar, where you can grab a cocktail, beer or wine, which is always fun!
Everything is run on a wrist band, so you can pay for any drinks using your wrist band, then when you leave you pay via card.
There are also a few outdoor seating options if you don’t want to sit in the water the full time, this is true if you’re visiting in the summer months when it’s warmer. But when you’re visiting in the winter season, you’ll want to stay in the water!
The ambience is calm and sophisticated, making it a great place for couples and solo travelers looking to unwind.

YES! If you’re heading to North Iceland, GeoSea is absolutely worth the visit. It’s less crowded than the Blue Lagoon, more scenic than Myvatn Nature Baths, and offers one of the best hot spring views in Iceland.
I think it may be Brad’s favourite “paid” hot spring in all of Iceland!
