I've used the Upper Deck Lounge at Glasgow Airport around 5 times now, so I've decided to give you my honest opinion on whether it's worth paying for...
glasgow airport lounge review

So, about 2 years ago, I started using lounges “full-time” and by that, I mean I started buying an unlimited Priority pass lounge pass so that I could always enter a lounge regardless of the airport I was visiting, and the route I was flying.

Once you start lounging, it’s hard to go back!

BUT, not all lounges are equal.

And before I go to a lounge, I always find myself googling “is such and such worth it?”, because typically with Priority Pass, you do have a few options when it comes to lounges. So you want to make sure you’re using the right one! SPECIFICALLY if you don’t have an unlimited priority pass and only have a certain number of visits.

Well, here I’m going to take you through my honest opinion of the Upper Deck Lounge in Glasgow airport. My sister lives in Glasgow, so I tend to visit her a few times a year, so I find myself using the Glasgow airport lounges a few times a year!

I’ve currently used the Glasgow Upper Deck Lounge 5 times, so I feel like I’m well qualified to give a review.

Also, for your reference, this Glasgow Airport lounge is located after security.

Let’s get into it.

TAP TO INTERACT

Entrance

The Upper Deck Lounge of Glasgow airport is located upstairs via the Beardmore Bar & Restaurant. You basically head towards the toilets behind the restaurant, and take a right turn then there is a lift that will take you up to the lounge (or you can take the stairs).

The entrance is fairly standard, not bad, not overwhelmingly great either. On most occasions there is staff there, but a few times the desk has been empty and despite ringing for assistance, it’s taken a while to get someone to appear.

It’s worth noting that when the lounge is super busy, they always put out a sign that says they aren’t accepting lounge pass holders, and that would include Priority Pass and Lounge Key, etc. Basically only people who have prepaid and booked the lounge are allowed in.

I’ve been turned away once because of this.

It is always worth asking however, because on one occasion, the lady at the desk let me in as a couple had just left.

Anyway, the staff are pleasant and there are no real issues here.

Layout and seating

As you enter, you’ve got a range of seating next to the big glass windows which offer great runway views (and there are plenty of plugs for plugging in laptops and charging phones).

Then you’ve got another large area to the right with more seating, and tables to sit at.

When this lounge gets busy in the summer, there aren’t enough seats, and not every seat is equal in terms of comfort.

The lounge is basic in style. It’s not cosy, it’s not pretty, it’s just a lounge.

No real effort in decor or ambience seems to be made.

Food and drink

If there is wine and cheese and biscuits, I can survive ;)

The food options and service at the Upper Deck Lounge and pretty poor.

I wouldn’t expect any fine dining, or any basic flavour, if I’m being honest.

I’ve experienced both the “breakfast”, the lunch and dinner.

Breakfast isn’t a full breakfast, there’s basically a bacon roll, premade, some fruits, porridge, and yogurts, and some bread, that’s pretty much it. It’s not a “fun” way to start a holiday, if that’s what you're doing.

Lunch and dinner are pretty much the same (in my experience). There will be some form of warm dish, usually pasta, and there is soup on offer. Then there will be 3 plates of either cheese, biscuits, some form of meat, some form of sandwich, and again, some fruit, yogurt, and crisps.

Truly, the food on offer is quite weak, and even worse if you’re a veggie or vegan.

If I paid for this lounge full price, I’d be so annoyed.

In terms of drinks, they have a 4 drink limit on alcohol.

When you enter the lounge, you’ll be asked if you’re planning on using the bar, and if you say yes, they will give you a little piece of paper, and each time you want to get an alcoholic drink, they will stamp the paper.

Now, I have no issues with this, as I would never have 4 drinks before a flight anyway, but if you were heading away on a hen or stag do, you might *want* to have more than 4, but you’re not allowed.

Presumably they’ve had issues in the past with people over drinking, and that’s why they brought in this rule?

I don’t know, but it’s a little tacky.

But in terms of drinks on offer, you’ve got all your spirits, wines, soft drinks. If you want any sparkling prosecco or champagne, you have to pay extra (always a little tacky in my opinion, charging extra for prosecco), and you have access to all your normal soft drinks.

I’ve only ever drank white wine in the lounge, but I like that they offer you a choice between 3, and they fill the glass right up!

There is also a hot beverage machine which does all your teas and coffees and hot chocolates, and there is no limit on how many you can have.

Any extras?

I mean, you get free WiFi, but that’s pretty much standard for a lounge. So, not really. I think I remember seeing some newspapers lying around, but other than that, there’s nothing extra in this lounge. So no, massage chairs, no books, no games, no computers, no TV room, nothing like that.

How long are you allowed in the lounge?

3 hours before your flight, which is a decent time.

What are the opening times of the Upper Deck Lounge?

The UpperDeck Lounge is open daily from 05:00 - 20:30 with last bookings taken at 18:30.

How much does the Upper Deck Lounge cost?

Pricing Adult: £32. Children: £21

And it’s included on Priority Pass.

Do I think it’s worth it?

If you’re paying out of pocket, no.

I think you could use your money at one of the other restaurants and have a better meal/time.

Because there is a cap on alcohol, I’m not even sure I’d say it was worth it even if you’re just going for the drinks. In my head I’m comparing this to other lounge like No1 lounge, and the Upper Deck Lounge is just not worth £32.

The only reason I use it is because it’s included on my unlimited priority pass, otherwise there is no way I would pay.

But I do think Priority Pass is worth it! Lol

If you travel a lot, or commute, then check it out, here.

Anyway, there you have it, my 100% honest review of the Glasgow Airport Lounge, Upper Deck!
