If you’ve ever researched going to London, you’ll likely have come across all the classics: Big Ben, a cruise on the River Thames, a classic afternoon tea, a show at the west end…ect ect.
They’re all fantastic London attractions, BUT if you’re looking for something truly unique, then you need to try out the Skuna Hot Tub Boats.
Brad and I have been grateful to do some fantastic activities around the world, but I can tell you this was truly one of the most awesome things we’ve done, and not just in London.
I want to take you through our experience and give you a sense of what to expect if you’re thinking of booking the Skuna Hot Tub boats.
So let’s get into it!
I’d actually come across the Skuna Hot Tub boats on Instagram, and it’s no surprise really, it’s a pretty viral experience.
But what exactly is it?
The Skuna Hot Tub Boats are wood-fired floating hot tubs that allow guests to cruise along the waterways of Canary Wharf while relaxing in warm, bubbling water.
It's a one-of-a-kind experience that combines a spa-like soak with a boat ride, perfect for special occasions, date nights, or fun outings with friends.
Some things to note:
Upon arrival at the Skuna Boats location, you’ll check-in, watch a safety video, and be shown the route for which you can take the boat.
It’s basically a 30 minute each way journey then you’ve got 10/15 minutes to take photos at the half way point (which we will get to in a minute).
You’ll then head to the heated changing rooms where there are lockers to leave your things, and if you haven’t got a towel or a dressing gown with you, you can opt to borrow one.
Towels and robes are £6 each to rent, or you can go VIP and get a robe, towel and Captains hat (to keep) for £16.
You can also buy a waterproof phone case for £6, or a captain's hat for £9…
As soon as we got out on the trip, I immediately regretted not buying a captains hat, so my advice is to buy one lol
They look really cool, and make for cool photos on your trip!
I also recommend you bring flip flops to walk down to the dock area.
If you haven’t already pre-booked drinks (you get 10% off by prebooking), you can order any drinks you want before you head off.
Once you’re ready, you’ll head down, pop any valuables, and things you want to take with you but keep waterproof, into a waterproof box which goes with you.
Any towels, dressing gowns or flips flops ect, will be put into a bag waiting for you on your return.
You’ll get in the hot tub, and a team member will go over how to drive the boat, and show you how to pop down the stove when going under bridges.
Brad was the driver, so I was the one who popped down the stove. It’s not complicated!
Then that’s it, you’re off on your adventure.
Brad and I went in the evening when it’s dark, and I HIGHLY recommend you do this.
Why? Because there is nothing like floating in the wonderful hot water, surrounded by the awesome bright lights and architecture of Canary Wharf.
Seriously.
The views are incredible, and there was literally noone else on the water when we went and it was just surreal having all these views to ourselves.
Yes and no.
They’re not complicated, as in you turn it one way to go the opposite direction, and a there's a way to go forward and reverse.
And there is a kill switch if you need it.
But, it is very sensitive lol
Brad found if he didn’t concentrate for a few seconds, the boat would spin out, and we did bump into a couple of things.
But you're not going fast enough to cause yourself any damage, and you just need to correct the steering.
If you’re the captain, then you can’t drink.
But if you’re a passenger, you can have up to 3 alcoholic drinks per person. Brad and I both just stuck to coke zeros for this trip!
But if I was with a group of drinks, I’d definitely love a prosecco on the water!
A hot tub boat can fit between 2 to 8 people.
We were two, and there was obviously so much space.
I’d say 8 would maybe feel like a squeeze, but 6 would be a good amount.
So pricing will depend on whether you’re opting for a private or shared hot tub experience.
Skuna boats offers both.
You can do a shared experience from £39pp, a great option if you're a solo traveller looking to meet some friends!
Or you can opt for your private boat, for which prices start at £120 per couple.
Prices will vary depending on the day of week, but below is a chart of the most recent pricing.
Hell to the yes.
Book it, and book it for the evening time, i.e whenever it gets dark (this will of course depend on the time of year your visit).
It’s such a cool experience, and the hot tub stayed super warm the entire time we were in it.
We genuinely LOVED this experience, and have already convinced our friends to book it, and to come back with us in the future.
So there you have it it, my review of the Skuna Hot Tub boats.
If you're looking for another unique experience by Skuna Boats, then you should also check out their Floating Igloo Fondue experience, and I've written about it here!
