Deciding what to pack whilst traveling is no easy task, and it’s even more difficult if you travel full-time like us.
As we’re living out of a backpack and road-tripping around the world in our trusty van Helen, we just don’t have the space to have 3-4 pairs of shoes each.
In fact, we try to take one pair with us or two at a push so we’re not struggling for space!
However, we LOVE to get stuck in whilst traveling and need a shoe that covers us for just about anything including hiking, kayaking, and swimming.
If you’re struggling with this problem and you love to get involved in a variety of activities whilst you’re away then we’ve got the ultimate travel shoe for you…
Tropicfeel is an awesome brand that’s dedicated to ‘all-in-one’ travel shoes that are suitable for every kind of environment or activity.
We’ve actually got an in-depth Tropicfeel review guide that details all their shoes, and what each one has to offer.
However, for this review, we’re going to specifically look at Tropicfeel’s Geyser Shoes.
Based in Barcelona, Tropicfeel is a fantastic company that’s on a mission to change the way that we travel.
Although you’ll find plenty of companies that promote well-made travel gear, not many of them work towards creating sustainable products that help us lower our environmental impact.
In 2017, Tropicfeel realized this which is why its three core pillars are sustainability, versatility, and high performance.
They wanted to create products that met all these pillars, and they’ve done it brilliantly creating a variety of products ranging from backpacks to shoes.
If you’re looking for more information about this brand's products, then we have a few other review guides on our website:
First of all, the best place to buy Tropicfeel shoes is directly on their website, and this goes for the Geyser shoe as well.
One of the best things about purchasing from Tropicfeel is that you can pay in a variety of currencies, and they also offer international shipping.
We had ours shipped to the UK and they arrived in less than a week, and I was really impressed with the way they’d been packaged too!
One of the first things to note about the Geyser Great range is the unique lace design or lack of…
Every shoe that Tropicfeel offers has a ‘sprint lace’ and the Geyser range is no different!
Instead of typical shoelaces that you have to do up constantly, you simply just need to pull your shoes on and cinch the rubber up the shoelace.
Although many of the slip-on style shoes you come across tend to fall straight off and not fit properly, the shoes from Tropicfeel don’t have this issue.
This is because it’s the fit of the shoe that makes them so secure, and they’ll stay on even if you don’t have the laces clinched.
This is perfect for travelers who are always on the go, as you can just pull your shoes on and off rather than having to tie and untie the laces.
The Tropicfeel Geyser Great is extremely comfortable and there’s a good cushion on the bottom.
First of all, the shoe is sealed by an HDry membrane (which I’ll discuss in a minute) which plays a big role in this.
With no seams, tapes, or folds, this membrane improves the comfort of the shoe as there’s no friction against your foot. Unfortunately, we all know how much this hurts when it happens!
Not only that, but the Geyser range has a Supra cushion outsole which is durable, and has EVA cushioning which is in place to help with shock absorption.
So, you won’t have to worry about using them for walking around all day which is always handy!
There’s no denying that the Tropicfeel is comfortable. However, I was hoping that they would be a little more cushioned as this is the impression you get from the images.
This is just my personal opinion and isn’t really an issue with the trainers as they’re still comfy, but It’s just something I noticed!
This is undeniably one of the BEST things about the Geyser Range!
Although the other shoes that Tropicfeel offers are ‘water-friendly’, Geyser is the brand's first and only 100% waterproof shoe!
That means you won’t have to worry about your feet getting wet during your travels, which is handy.
This feat has been obtained by using HDry technology, as the interior of the shoe has been laminated to an HDry membrane.
Not only does it give the shoe a fully sealed barrier but it doesn’t affect your comfort either - in fact, it adds to it as I mentioned before.
Thanks to HDry technology, the Geyser range doesn’t absorb water and you’ll stay nice and dry. However, there’s one thing to note here!
Although the Tropicfeel Geyser does dry out quickly, it doesn’t dry out as quickly as the brand's other all-terrain sneakers. This is something to think about if you’re planning to spend a lot of time doing water activities such as kayaking or swimming.
Now, if your shoes are getting wet all the time you’d naturally expect them to get very smelly!
Luckily, the design and the material of the Geyser absorbs the odor molecules and won’t release them until the shoe is being washed.
That means you don’t have to worry about smelly trainers stinking out your room or campervan!
Another great thing about the Geyser range is the material they’re made from - recycled wool.
This is where thermoregulation comes into play, as this wool essentially allows you natural temperature control. How do you ask?
Well, depending on the external environment the wool will absorb or evaporate your body’s moisture. This will create either a cooling or warming effect.
Not only will your feet always be dry, but they’ll also be temperature controlled which isn’t a common feature on today’s market.
The recycled wool used in the Geyser range is known to be extremely breathable too as it’s great at removing moisture in a small area.
This may not sound very important but it’s one of this product’s big advantages, especially if you’re going to be traveling through a variety of countries and climates.
The recycled wool layer of the shoe is located underneath the HDry membrane and the Water-repellent canvas.
As of writing, I’ve been wearing the Geyser Great for over a month. When I mean wearing, I mean solid use so I’ve hardly taken them off.
I can honestly say that the quality has been great and I’ve had no issues whatsoever!
Not only do they look great for everyday use, but I personally feel that the Geyser Range is much better suited to colder climates.
Other pairs of the Tropicfeel Range like Jungle for example are much thinner and breathable, but they’re not going to keep you warm or 100% dry on a cold winter's day!
For this reason, I feel that the Geyser shoe works better across a range of climates so is suitable for someone who’s planning to travel a lot.
The thing to consider is what you’re going to be doing whilst wearing them…
Are you planning to hike in the mountains or are you simply looking for an everyday pair that you can wander around and explore in?
With an increased tongue and neckline, the Geyser Great is the better option for hiking by far. If you’re looking for more ankle support then I’d recommend going for this pair rather than the Geyser Litli.
The Geyser Great is essentially a high-top version, but considering the difference in design, they’re still relatively lightweight.
Both the Geyser Great and Litli are specifically designed to be slip-resistant, with a complete rubber grip outsole.
This is designed with grooves to help you stay on your feet, and improve traction and grip!
The Geyser Great definitely has a good grip on the soles, as does the Litli but honestly, I feel like they’re not designed to be as adventurous as some of Tropicfeel’s other shoes.
Of the two, the Geyser Great is the better option for more adventurous activities such as hiking due to its ankle support.
However, speaking generally, I just feel that the grip on them isn’t quite as good!
Because of that, I think that some of the other designs such as Jungle or Lava are more suited for rugged adventures like hitting the mountains or exploring the rainforest.
Whereas, the Geyser Great is a fantastic option for day-to-day use and for terrain that’s not as challenging.
There’s no denying that the Geyser Great is sleek in design, and can be worn with a variety of outfits.
One of the main reasons for this is that they’re only supplied in very neutral colors including grey, black, dark green, and navy. So naturally, you won’t have to worry about them clashing with your clothes!
Another great thing about this shoe is that it’s got a 4-1 design making it incredibly versatile.
The way Tropicfeel describes this shoe is essentially one that offers the protection of rain boots, the grip of hiking boots, and the comfort of sports shoes, but with the design of your favorite trainers.
Now, that’s quite a mouthful but it basically means that you’ve got everything in the one shoe, so you won’t need to pack multiple options!
If you’re only going on a short trip then this may not be as much of a saving grace, but for full-time travelers like us, it’s super handy.
One of the main things that draws people to Tropicfeel is just how sustainable they are!
They believe that it’s their responsibility to help travelers in a way that doesn’t affect the environment.
For this reason, all their products are designed, sourced, and manufactured in a way that helps the planet, and the community.
Some examples of this are:
One of the key sustainable factors of Tropicfeel is the fact that they reuse fabrics, giving recycled fibers a second life.
These materials would otherwise end up in landfill or the ocean as they aren't biodegradable!
This includes their certified and traceable recycled wool, recycled EVA, and Nylon.
When it comes to sustainability, Tropicfeel is always looking for ways to reduce its water usage, and greenhouse gas emissions. In fact, they’re currently working with BCOME to reduce their impact on the planet!
Lastly, they take pride in their supply chain and make sure that this includes fair wages and benefits, occupational health and safety, and animal welfare.
You’ll find that the Geyser Litli has many of the same benefits as the Geyser Grand including the unique lace design, the fact that they’re waterproof, and they offer thermoregulation.
However, there are a couple of more things to look at…
Although the Geyser Grand is relatively lightweight, it’s the Geyser Litli that wins this one!
As I mentioned before, the Geyser Grand is a high-top style shoe so it naturally has more material, and weighs slightly more.
The Geyser Litli is more of a standard trainer style and it’s much more compact, so can easily be packed into a backpack or day bag,
Even though the Litli design is lightweight, they don’t feel cheap, which is often the price you pay for this combination!
This makes them the perfect option for traveling as they’re small and light, but you won’t have to compromise on the quality.
So if you’re looking for a more compact and lightweight design, then you might want to go for the Litli design rather than the Grand!
The Geyser Litli range is super comfortable, which makes them great for everyday use!
You won’t have to worry about walking around in them all day either, which is what you’ll be doing if you’re exploring new places.
They did take a couple of wears to ‘break into’ but I usually find this with most shoes anyway.
The one thing I will say is that it’s really important that you get the right size. Unlike most trainers which have laces that you do up, the Tropicefeel Range has ‘sprint laces’ instead.
Now, this is really handy for us travelers but it does mean that it’s the fit of the shoe that will make them secure. If you end up going for the wrong size, then I think it would rub on your ankle.
Luckily, Tropicfeel has a size guide on their website that you can take a look at to work out the best size.
If you’re between two sizes, then Tropicfeel recommends that you purchase the larger size!
In my opinion, the Geyser Litli range is very versatile, and so far I’ve been able to wear them with dresses, shorts, and jeans.
This makes them a great ‘all-rounder’ shoe and means that I don’t need to worry about carrying several pairs of shoes with me to go with my outfits.
It’s a good job too because they just wouldn’t fit in our van!
One of the main reasons for this is the shoe's sleek design and neutral colors, so they’re super easy to wear with a variety of outfits.
The one thing I will say that I’ve previously mentioned is to consider what you’re planning to do during your travels!
If you’re looking to spend a lot of time hiking then the Geyser Grand is the better option as it offers more ankle support, whilst the Geyser Litli is better for day-to-day use.
As with all Tropicfeel shoes, I love that there are no actual laces so you can just slip them on and off with ease!
I think this is one of the brand's best features and the fact that they’re all sustainably made. Of course, the Geyser range being waterproof is another huge win in the trainer world.
However, there’s one thing that I would like to see more of…
Now, I know I just said that the neutral colors make the shoes easier to pair with outfits, but I would love to see a few more color choices!
At the minute, I feel like the colors are more ‘male-orientated’ with green and sand available, or they’re just darker tones/vibes, for example, grey and black.
Something with a bit more pop would be great like a red color, which is available in the Dune and Canyon range!
Another great thing about the Geyser range is how durable they are!
As I’ve mentioned they’re waterproof so you won’t need to worry about them getting ruined if you come into contact with water.
Secondly, they’re super easy to clean! I got them dirty really quickly, and I just cleaned them with a wet wipe and they looked as good as new.
If you’re planning to be traveling a lot and getting up to all sorts of activities, then you need a good shoe that can withstand wear and tear.
Now, the Geyser Litli and the Great are certainly durable, but some of the other shoes in Tropicfeel’s range might be more suited if you’re a keen adventurer…
We absolutely love the Tropicfeel shoe range as a whole, and we’ve been wearing them for almost three years now.
Being full-time travelers, finding the perfect shoe isn’t easy but the shoes that Tropicfeel offer are great quality and extremely versatile.
Now, onto the question at hand - should you purchase either of the Geyser shoes?
Yes, I would 100% recommend both of the Geyser options, but I would say to think carefully about where you’re heading and whether they suit the style of traveling that you have in mind.
The reason I say this is because I believe that the Geyser design is more suitable for day-to-day use and a less rugged style of travel.
The key difference about the Geyser shoes is they are designed to be waterproof and warmer, but if you’re planning a 6-month trip through Asia or South America then you’re better off going for one of Tropicfeel's other shoes.
Other options like the Jungle, Lava, or Monsoon are all better suited for more intense activities like trekking through rainforests and diving into rivers!
These three shoes offer more grip in my opinion and they dry much faster. Not only that, but they’re more compact so can easily be squeezed into your backpack or day pack when not in use.
So the final answer is yes! The Geyser shoes are designed to be fully weatherproof and they look great.
They’re also extremely comfortable, but personally, I just don’t feel like the grip is quite as good.
For this reason, they’re a fantastic option for day-to-day use and cooler climates, but not for rugged adventures through the mountains or the jungle.
Although Tropicfeel is known for its fantastic travel shoes, they also offer a range of other products.
This includes:
In addition to the Geyser range, Tropicfeel also has a variety of other shoes available.
Each one is sustainable, lightweight, and durable, although they are all unique in their own way.
Here’s a quick breakdown of the options on Tropicfeel’s website…

Aside from shoes, Tropicfeel also has some fantastic backpacks so let’s take a look at each one…
So that’s our Tropicfeel Geyser review, and overall, we think these shoes are extremely comfortable, fantastic quality, and they look great.
The fact that they’re lightweight and waterproof means they’re a great addition to your travel packing list, and of course, they’re sustainable too!
The one thing to consider before you purchase a pair is what you’re looking to do whilst traveling, as I feel that these shoes are better suited to ‘nicer conditions’.
